Wakeboarding for the 2020 Olympics

wakeboard 2020 olympics

How much would love to see cable wakeboarding in the 2020 olympics? Hopefully as much as me and the rest of the wakboarding community.

Recently, the Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge, announced that eight sports were shortlisted for further review to be considered on the 2020 Olympic programme, wakeboarding is up against 7 other worthy sports for inclusion.

The shortlist

From an initial list of 13, the 8 in with a chance are:

Baseball, Karate, Roller Sports, Softball, Sport Climbing, Squash, Wakeboarding (whoop whoop), Wushu

Rogge said the sports were considered on their individual merits, as well as their global appeal, their inclusion of both sexes, how attractive it is to a young audience and the appeal for television broadcasters.

The campaign

The IWWF (International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation) is the group behind the campaign and should be praised for all they are doing to boost the sport.

According to their presentation, the IWWF counted 379 cableparks across the globe, although this number will have increased since they presented their 'Vision' - there are new parks popping up everywhere at the moment. They estimate there will be 625 by the time the 2020 Olympics comes around. With the sport growing that quickly, it surely goes to show the vast numbers of boys and girls taking up the sport.

wakeHQ will certainly be doing its best to help the campaign and will also be calling on you lot to do your bit.
